Call for papers

The 14-th ITC Specialists Seminar on teletraffic issues related to access networks and systems will be held on April 25 - 27, 2001 at the Hotel Melia Confort in Girona, Catalonia, Spain.

The International Teletraffic Congress is the catalyst, focal point and primary source for teletraffic research and applications in the International community. Specifically, the ITC provides a forum for teletraffic experts to meet, interact and benefit from discussions and exchanges of ideas, results and best practices.

The ITC Specialists Seminars attract and stimulate technical interchange between teletraffic scientists, engineers and researchers on specific technical topics related to current or emerging telecommunications services and technologies. The topic or theme selected would be one which would attract attendees and foster significant technical interchange. Work is typically in-progress status, recent findings or current technical challenges. There are invited participants/speakers known to be at leading edge in the field.

Seminar scope

The access segment plays today a key role in the expansion of Telecommunication services in multiple dimensions like service accessibility, bandwidth, flexibility, competition, etc.
The 14th ITC Specialists Seminar focuses on the Teletraffic issues, models and solutions that will enable a high quality engineering and service deployment for all involved technologies in the access.

Submission of papers

Papers for the conference should be written in English and with a limit of 12 pages. Once accepted, the authors will be asked to prepare a camera ready paper to appear in the conference proceedings. The proceedings will be published by the editorial service of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

Submissions should be made electronically, either in postscript or PDF format. To submit papers please use the Submit button.

Site Information

The 14th ITC Specialists Seminar was planned to take place in Barcelona. Due to the problems to find hotels during the seminar dates (a huge bulding fair, CONSTRUMAT, is taking place), the organizing committee took the decision to move the location to Girona (Hotel Melia Confort). Girona is a beautiful middle-ages town located 100 Km north of Barcelona and 40 Km away from the Costa Brava. The wellknown Dali Museum is in Figueres, a town 40 Km away from Girona. If you intend to stay over the weekend, you can visit from Girona both Barcelona and the beautiful beaches of Costa Brava.

Girona is a natural passage to the north-eastern sector of the peninsula, and its position of fortress was made evident under the Romans, who constructed a oppidum (afterwards municipium) near Via Augusta. A diocese from V century, after a brief Muslim dominion (VIII century), Charlemagne converted it into an advanced border of his empire. Girona possesses a great number of Romanic and Gothic buildings, frequently with Renaissance and Baroque elements, of a religious or civil nature, which were the seats of political and cultural institutions, or manor houses of the nobility.

The social event will take place in the Castle of Peratallada built in 1065. Before the dinner we will visit the nice middle-age village of Pals. .

How to arrive to Girona

From Barcelona Airport you can take the train to Sants Station which is the final stop. The trip takes half an hour and there is a train every half an hour. Once in Sants you can take a train (timetable) that lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes to Girona Station. Note that the last train from Sants Station to Girona leaves at 21.20. Once in Girona, the Hotel Melia Confort is 10 minutes walking. The timetable of the train to come back from Girona can be found here.
If you rent a car at the airport (you should book it in advance), there is a highway to Girona. Girona is 100 Km away from Barcelona.

Girona has also a small airport where you may directly arrive

Please do the reservation as soon as possible (deadline is the 7th of March) as even Girona is fully booked due to the fair (CONSTRUMAT) taking place in Barcelona and the Formula 1 Championship in Montmelo.
